Checklist
Resume final check
This is for the last pass before you send an application. It groups the checks that catch the most avoidable mistakes: wording, consistency, simple formatting and the file you actually upload. Allow about 15 to 20 minutes. Tick items as you go, and print the page if you like working on paper.
Your ticks are saved only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Why these checks
The list follows what university career centers and public workforce career sites commonly advise: tailor to the posting, show specifics, keep formatting simple, and proofread carefully. The plain text test is a practical way to see what an automated system might read, since text inside images, text boxes, headers or tables is sometimes dropped or scrambled when a file is processed. Systems differ and employers rarely say how theirs works, so passing every check does not guarantee anything. It only removes avoidable problems.
What this list leaves out
It cannot judge whether your experience suits the job, and it does not replace a second reader. If you can, ask someone who knows your field to read the resume cold for two minutes and tell you what stood out.
Where this comes from
The checks summarize published resume and applicant tracking system guidance from several university career centers and public workforce sites. This is general information, not personal career advice.
